Erie Homes for Children and Adults Honored 255 Employees During DSP Recognition Week, Sept 13-19
(ERIE, PA—September 19)—Erie Homes for Children and Adults (EHCA) has something to celebrate this week – its direct support professionals (DSPs)! During DSP Recognition Week, running September 13 – 19, EHCA wants to acknowledge how these workers make a difference in the lives of the community members they work with every day.
“A direct support professional, or DSP, is responsible for another person’s complete personal day-to-day activities. Whether working with an EHCA group home resident or with a community-based program participant, a DSP may need to assist their client with feeding, bathing, and dressing; may administer medications; may transport the individual to physician appointments or recreational activities in the community,” says Polly Momeyer, director of human resources at EHCA. “A DSP really becomes the individual’s friend, family member, and the one who not only takes care of them but also inspires them and empowers them to reach their full potential in life. The relationship between a DSP and their client can be very special.”
At EHCA, nearly three-fourths of its workforce are DSP employees. EHCA currently has approximately 300 DSPs in charge of taking care of the clients they serve in both residential and community-based programming. Each of their DSPs will be given a small token of EHCA’s appreciation. EHCA believes that people with disabilities should have the opportunity to have quality caregivers, and the DSPs provide not only quality care but quality friendship to the people they serve.
The mission of EHCA is to assist people with disabilities to live rich and fulfilling lives by providing quality, comprehensive and accessible residential and community-based services for children and adults with developmental disabilities throughout Erie, Crawford, Venango, and Potter counties. Since 1912, EHCA has been caring for local individuals and striving to help everyone served reach their full potential.
