Residential Homes

The goal of the residential program is to provide each individual with a "home" where they are surrounded by caring staff who will ensure that every need they may have is met.

EHCA believes that every individual who lives with us is first and foremost a person with her/his own rights, feelings, needs and capabilities.

EHCA provides residential supports to individuals with developmental disabilities through the operation of sixteen group homes in Erie and Crawford Counties. Each of the homes are staffed 24-hours a day by Direct Support Professionals under the supervision of Community Home Coordinators and Program Specialists. A Program Specialist works closely with the individual, family and team to coordinate the supports and services needed.

Activities

Individuals take an active part in their communities and neighborhoods by attending
church services, picnics, concerts, school events, weekend getaways and shopping trips. Community involvement is based upon each person’s leisure interests.

Support Team

Outcomes geared to enhance life experiences are developed by the individual and their support team. In each home, the team works together to provide the supports necessary to enrich and adapt the environment with assistive technology and adaptive and therapeutic equipment. They also work with the individual to create structured activities and learning opportunities that build on each person’s strengths and abilities.

Medical Care

 Medical & Therapeutic Care

Nursing is available around the clock, with scheduled daily visits and constant on-call accessibility. Care is also available through our Medical Director. All residents receive an annual physical, medications are monitored on a regular basis, and hospital admissions, as well as specialty physician referrals, are attended to as necessary.

The residents are also treated by a physical therapist and speech therapist to maintain functional mobility, skin integrity and speech and nutritional status. A nutritionist is also on staff to ensure that meals are nutritious and that a full range of special diets are available to each individual, if needed.  Occupational therapy and psychology services are also available.

EHCA offers many specialty on-site clinics to meet the special needs of our residents. A Seizure Clinic is held quarterly where every individual who has a seizure disorder is assessed and evaluated. A psychiatrist is available monthly to work with individuals with mental health concerns.

Our goal is to promote the best overall health possible for each and every individual. Our strict standards help ensure that we are monitoring every aspect of the individual's health on anongoing basis.
